Louis Smith promoting National year of Reading

Olympic Bronze medallist Louis Smith has joined forces with The National Year Of Reading, picking their most inspirational reads as part of a campaign to promote the enjoyment of books and literacy in the UK. Louis is one of a number of leading British sports stars who have chosen the books that inspire them in the run-up to an event.

Louis's choice is ‘Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out’ - Robert Collier and quotes 'Being able to perform the skills I do does not happen overnight – you have to work relentlessly to get the smallest of details right and then when you put everything together that you’ve done over the years, you can achieve success – something I think the above quote sums up perfectly.'

The 2008 National Year Of Reading has been designed to promote reading as an enjoyable activity, which is everywhere and is not just about books - it is about reading anything, anywhere at anytime. It is being managed by The National Literacy Trust - an independent charity that changes lives through literacy, by linking home, school and the wider community to inspire learning and create opportunity. It works with a consortium of partners - including lead partner The Reading Agency, by allocating funds to establish a framework for delivering the campaign at a national and local level. One of its key priorities is to develop a legacy which embeds reading - in all forms - in social culture and local authority planning, long beyond the end of the campaign itself.
