Huntingdon Gymnasts Dominate Cambridgeshire Recreational Gymnastics Competition

 

On Saturday 22nd October gymnasts from Huntingdon Gymnastics Club (HGC) dominated the annual Cambridgeshire 4 piece Recreational Gymnastics Competition.  The competition is run for children who participate in gymnastics for a maximum of 2 hours per week.

In the boys 10 – 11 age group, Kyle Bowman demonstrated excellent ability to win 3 of the four pieces of apparatus, team mate Thomas Sherwin won gold on Bars to make it a clean sweep of gold medals for Huntingdon in this age group.  Oliver Thompson was consistent across all 4 pieces and won Silver medal on all the apparatus.  Oliver Rittel also of (HGC) won three bronze medals on Vault, Bars and Floor.

In the Boys 12+ age group it was a two way competition between Imran Cunningham and Aaron Wildman on all four pieces they pushed each other all the way with Imran taking gold on Floor, Vault and Parallel Bars, Aaron took gold on the low Bar.

In the Girls 12+ age group 3 gymnasts from Huntingdon competed really well to win medals across all apparatus.  On Vault Amy Millross won the gold medal, with Katie Marson in second place and Hannah Norris in third.  On Bars Katie Marson took the gold medal, Amy Millross won the bronze medal and Hannah Norris finished in a close fourth place.  On Beam Hannah won Silver and Katie after a fall finished in third place.  On floor it was Hannah’s turn to win gold, with Katie in second place by the smallest of margins.

All of the Boys and Girls who competed have now qualified to participate in the Eastern Counties Regional Competition on Sunday 27th November at Pipers Vale Gymnastics Club in Ipswich.  Adam Scott coach at Huntingdon Gymnastics Club expressed his delight with the gymnasts' performances “The gymnasts performed really well today and will need to continue training hard for the regional competition at the end of November.”
